Annette Nazareth, the SEC's market regulation director pulls no punches on the role of trading technology. "My own bias is why not allow investors to get the best price if it is available," she said. Nazareth was speaking at the STA's Washington conference on Reg NMS.

"Technology has enabled us to be able to get to the better price" Nevertheless, she noted, there is view that even if a better quoted price is available, it may not be the execution price.
