*Nicholas Giordano joined the American Stock Exchange as a consultant. He was previously interim president of LaSalle University and is a former president and chief executive of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.

*Dain Rauscher Wessels in Minneapolis promoted Ted Mortonson to director of equity sales, research and trading. He is succeeding Peter Grant, who was named president of the firm last year.

*The Boston Stock Exchange re-elected Bruce Newell, vice president of

Pershing Trading Company LP, as vice chairman on the exchange's Board of Governors. The BSE also elected two new governors, Daniel Joyce and Mary McDermott-Holland. Joyce is executive vice president of Moors & Cabot, Inc. and McDermott-Holland is senior vice president of trading at Franklin Portfolio Associates.

*Daniel Patrick Martell joined CooperNeff in King of Prussia, Pa. as senior vice president and portfolio manager of risk managed funds. Before joining the firm, he was with Chariot Investment Group, LLC.

*ABN AMRO hired Malcolm Wager, formerly with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, as global head of trading for its global financial markets business. He is based in the firm's London office.

*Jefferies & Company in New York hired Joe Leighton, from Knight Securities,as executive vice president of the firm's equity trading department. David Miller and Chris Mitrano, also from Knight, joined as sales traders.

*Loop Capital Markets in Chicago hired Dan Davies as director of equity institutional sales and Steffanie Luther as an institutional equity sales trader. Davies was previously with Lynch Jones & Ryan and Luther was formerly with Stevens & Company.

*Barry Greenberg, previously with J.C. Bradford & Co., joined Sutro & Co. in San Francisco as senior vice president and director of financial planning.

*ABN AMRO in New York hired Bruce Ozello, previously with PaineWebber, as a market maker and Bill Morris, from Donaldson, Lufkin Jenrette (now part of Credit Suisse First Boston) as a senior sales trader. Rob McAndrew, also from DLJ, joined the firm's Chicago office as a sales trader.

*Trading Technologies in New York named Richard Brook as executive vice president for U.S. operations. He was formerly chief executive and chief operating officer of Peak International.

*Charles Rogers joined the Philadelphia Stock Exchange as chief operating officer for both equities and options. He was previously executive vice president of options operations at the Pacific Stock Exchange.

*Merrill Lynch in New York nabbed Sean Haggarty, previously with Donaldson, Lufkin Jenrette, as a sales trader; Rob Gillan, also from DLJ, as a market maker; and Bob Ozello aka Jumbo, formerly with PaineWebber, as a senior trader.

*The Pacific Stock Exchange named Peter Armstrong senior vice president, options. He was previously vice president, San Francisco equity operations for the PCX.

*SunGard Business Integration in London named Colin Forrest managing director of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. He was previously managing director, professional services, for SunGard Trading & Risk Systems.

*The National Association of Securities Dealers named Douglas Shulman executive vice president, corporate development, strategy and technology. He was co-founder and executive vice president of Foundry One, Inc. and previously vice president of Darby Oversees Investments, Ltd.

*The Securities and Exchange Commission appointed Cynthia M. Forneilli deputy director of the Commission's division of investment management. She was formerly senior advisor to Paul Roye, director of the division of investment management. Prior to joining the SEC, she practiced securities law at Dechert Price and Rhoads. Karen Buck Burgess, previously associate general counsel at the SEC, was named special adviser to Lori Richards, director of the office of compliance inspections and examinations. Mark K. Schonfeld was named associate director of the Commission's northeast regional office. He was formerly assistant regional director in the northeast regional office.
